Katie Bruns, M.A.
Adjunct Professor | Communication Strategist | Award-Winning Educator
Katie Bruns is an accomplished communication studies professor who has spent nearly a decade teaching Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, and related courses across multiple California community colleges, including Golden West College, Santiago Canyon College, Santa Ana College, and Orange Coast College. Her teaching is recognized for its balance of academic rigor, practical skill-building, and supportive mentorship—helping students develop confidence, clarity, and adaptability in their communication.
Katie’s excellence in the classroom has been formally recognized with the Faculty Excellence Award from Santiago Canyon College and a nomination as International Students’ Outstanding Professor, highlighting her commitment to inclusive, student-centered instruction.
Before entering higher education full-time, Katie served as Director of Marketing and Communications for Harbor City Enterprises, where she developed and implemented brand strategies, managed external communications, and oversaw marketing campaigns. This professional background informs her teaching, enabling her to connect theoretical concepts to real-world applications in business, leadership, and media.
Katie holds a Master’s in Communication Studies from California State University, Long Beach, and a B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Communication Studies from Chapman University, graduating magna cum laude. She is also a member of prestigious academic honor societies, including Beta Gamma Sigma and Gamma Beta Phi.
Whether in the classroom or the community, Katie is dedicated to equipping students with the communication tools they need to thrive in diverse personal, academic, and professional contexts.
